J. Mark Dunning President

J. Mark Dunning was born in Dothan, AL, and founded Mark Dunning Industries (MDI) in 1980 while still in college at the University of Alabama./Operating out of his home, and performing many jobs himself, he quickly developed a sense of “What it Takes” to succeed in a highly competitive Government Services market. His “What it Takes” outlook on business has thrived on dedication to customer service and complete customer satisfaction. Over the years, he has established MDI as a top tier player in the Solid Waste Industry. As President, Mark guides the company to maintain its focus and provide strategic direction for the future.

Brad Dunning

Vice President/COO

Brad W. Dunning, son of President J. Mark Dunning, is originally from Dothan, AL, and has been employed with MDI since 2006. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Alabama College of Commerce and Business Administration.

Jim Franklin

Chief Financial Officer

Jim is a Dothan native and earned his Accounting degree from Troy University. He has over 25 years’ experience leading the financial function of privately held manufacturing, distribution, and transportation companies. He has extensive experience in cost management, planning, forecasting, and financial reporting as well as general management experience in the areas of HR, Information systems, Procurement, and Maintenance.

Star Bowman

Res. Refuse Mgr./Safety Director

Felecia Starr Bowman (Starr) was born in Heidelberg, Germany. She joined Mark Dunning Industries in 1993 at the Corporate Office in Dothan, Alabama, where she managed several county and municipal contracts for residential and commercial refuse collection. In 2003 Starr accepted the title of MDI’s Safety Director. Her expertise includes Landfill Diversion and Recycling, operations management, fleet maintenance, DOT regulations, and Safety Protocol, where she has earned Mark Dunning.

Phillip Makowski

Controller

IN MEMORY OF OUR COLLEAGUE AND FRIEND
Our longtime colleague of over 13 years, Phillip Makowski (Phil), passed away in June of 2010 after a 3 year battle with ALS. Phil was born in San Marcos, TX, and was raised in Ozark, AL. Phil was a Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a graduate of the University of Alabama.

He joined MDI in 1997 as Corporate Controller and handled most of the day to day management operations. MDI will forever be indebted to Phil’s hard work, courage, and determination, to make MDI one of the best in the business.

Roy H. Phillips

Res./Recylcing Mgr., Ft. Rucker, AL

Roy H. Phillips was born in Tampa, FL, and has currently been employed by MDI since 1982, making him the longest tenured employee. He currently manages the Refuse and Recycling contract at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and he also runs the Dothan shop at the home office. His areas of expertise include, Driving Instructor of New Employees, Welding, Painting, Truck and Container Repair, Solid Waste Management, Landfill Diversion and Recycling, Roads and Grounds Maintenance, Lake Fertilization, and Government Contract Management.

Ronnie Knotts

Account Rep., Alabama Region One

Ronnie Knotts is originally from Troy, Alabama, and is currently the Sales Manager for the Alabama Region One. He was originally employed with MDI in the late 90’s, and returned to the company in 2008. His expertise includes more than 20 years of Solid Waste Management, Landfill Diversion and Recycling, including Roll-Off, Front Load, and Compactor Sales.

Scott Smith

Corp. Sales Mgr., Alabama Region One

Scott is originally from Lineville, AL. He is a graduate of Auburn University (where he taped the ankles of Charles Barkley and Bo Jackson!) and holds a Master’s degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife Jill have been married over 25 years and have two sons and one grandson.

Scott joined MDI in 2011, bringing over 20 years of sales, marketing, and management experience from the pharmaceutical industry. Scott brings to MDI his passion for creating customer value that exceeds expectation through unsurpassed customer service.

Payne Henderson

Account Rep., Alabama Region One

Payne Henderson is a Dothan native and is currently serving as a account representative with MDI. Payne is a graduate of Samford University where he graduated with degrees in Finance and Management from the Brock School of Business. He enjoys working closely with individuals and businesses in the area to make sure that their unique needs are met.

David Dunning

Account Rep.

J. David Dunning is the youngest son of President J. Mark Dunning and brother of Brad W. Dunning. David is originally from Dothan, Alabama and has been with MDI since January 2012. David graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Business Management with a minor in Computer Science in December 2011.

Robert T. Burke

Project Mgr. Kings Bay NSB

Robert T. Burke is from Brunswick, GA, and has been with Mark Dunning Industries since 1991. He received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 1976 from the University of Georgia, and he has his Georgia Commercial Pesticide Applicators License in 3 Categories. His current position is the Project Manager at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, GA.

Kim Morse

Account Rep. – Auburn/Opelika

Kim Morse lives in Jackson’s Gap, Alabama on beautiful Lake Martin. She and her husband Shane have been married for 12 years and are blessed with one daughter. Kim has over 10 years experience in the waste removal industry and joined MDI in 2016 as a account representative. She takes pride in providing outstanding customer service while building strong business relationships with her customers in order to meet their needs.

Dan Wesley

Project Mgr., NAS, Pensacola

Daniel Wesley was in the Army Reserve for 6 years where he served in the 961 ST Combat Engineers as a Heavy Equipment operator/mechanic. He has worked on NAS – Pensacola since 2009 performing duties such as Quality Control management, compactor repair and roll-off & front load truck operation. Dan started with MDI in 2014, and is currently a Project Manager with experience in Sales & Service, Management, Government Contracting.

Patrick Down

Project Mgr., Keesler AFB

Patrick, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is is from Maben, Mississippi. He has been with MDI since 2015 with experience as a Roll-off and Front Load driver, Recycling Tech and Project Manager. He is a retired U.S. Air Force Senior Non-Commisioned Officer, with experience in Logistics, Vehicle Operation, Deployment and Distribution and Combat Convoy Commander.

James Porter

Project Mgr., NAS Corpus Christi and Kingsville

Former longtime employee James Porter started with MDI in February of 1999 through March 2006. James returned to MDI in 2015 as the Project Manager for the STOX Area, NAS Corpus Christi and Kingsville ISWM contract.

Joe Strange

Project Mgr., Albuquerque, NM

Joe Strange, is originally from Palm Springs, CA and has been with Mark Dunning Industries since 2009. Joe began with MDI in Colorado Springs, CO, and his current position is the Project Manager at Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque New Mexico. He has vast experience in Customer Service, Sales, Management, Government Contracting and Heavy Equipment operation.
